Re: About the Postgres Conferecne in China

by GRANT ZHOU

------------------------------ Dear Alvaro, Thank you so much for agreeing to come to China for the conference - this is wonderful news and I truly appreciate your commitment. I have already reserved a speaking slot specifically for you, so please take your time to prepare and submit your talk proposal when convenient. You may also consider submitting multiple proposals so our team can have options to select from. I will be in China from June 22 to July 10, and I'd love to coordinate our schedules. Here's a preliminary itinerary we're considering: - June 27-28: Main conference in Jinan - June 29: City tour of Jinan - June 30: Meeting at Highgo office - Additional time: Business meetings with the Highgo team to discuss potential future collaborations *Please note *that you *don't need to book the high-speed train* from Beijing to Jinan - we will handle that for you. We will also take care of hotel arrangements in Jinan, so *no need to book accommodations* on your end. Just let us know if the schedule works for you. Please share your travel schedule and availability so we can finalize the detailed arrangements. We can discuss the specific agenda and logistics in the coming weeks. Looking forward to seeing you in Jinan! New submission: Monitoring PgVector RAG Agents Applications

by HOW2025

Jayita Bhattacharyya has submitted a new session! Monitoring PgVector RAG Agents Applications pgvector within Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) agents. As pgvector integrates vector similarity search capabilities into PostgreSQL, ensuring optimal performance and reliability in RAG workflows is crucial. Proposals should address:Performance Monitoring: Techniques for tracking and analyzing pgvector query performance, including latency, throughput, and resource utilization. Utilizing PostgreSQL's built-in tools like EXPLAIN and ANALYZE can be beneficial. Error Detection and Debugging: Methods to identify and resolve errors or anomalies in pgvector operations within RAG applications. Implementing observability tools can aid in monitoring and debugging complex RAG-based systems. Scalability and Resource Management: Strategies to monitor and manage resource allocation, ensuring efficient scaling of pgvector in RAG contexts. Scaling pgvector can be achieved by increasing memory, CPU, and storage on a single instance, or by using replicas and sharding techniques. Integration with Observability Tools: Approaches to incorporate existing observability platforms for comprehensive monitoring of pgvector within RAG pipelines. Tools like New Relic offer observability quickstarts for pgvector, providing dashboards and alerts to monitor key performance metrics. New submission: What is Patroni, really?

by HOW2025

Alexander Kukushkin has submitted a new session! What is Patroni, really? Patroni is widely recognized as a high-availability solution for PostgreSQL—but what really makes it tick? In this talk, we’ll explore its architecture, core principles, and the clever mechanisms that keep it resilient in production. We’ll go beyond the documentation to uncover the design decisions—both brilliant and painful—that shaped Patroni into what it is today. We’ll also touch on the practical challenges that come with deploying Patroni in real-world environments: choosing and managing distributed configuration systems like Etcd or Consul, handling backups and point-in-time recovery, managing PostgreSQL configuration, and integrating tools like pgbouncer. These are the kinds of questions that regularly surface in the community and define what it means to run Patroni in production. New submission: Switching to Open: Why PostgreSQL and IvorySQL Make Business Sense

by HOW2025

Andrea Cucciniello has submitted a new session! Switching to Open: Why PostgreSQL and IvorySQL Make Business Sense This non-technical talk explores the business and operational case for adopting open-source databases, with a focus on PostgreSQL and IvorySQL.I’ll share how we at Data Bene help organisations transition from proprietary systems, and how open-source adoption fits into a broader strategic and commercial framework. IvorySQL plays a key role in our customer journey model, particularly for Oracle compatibility. New submission: Stats roll, baby, stats roll.

by HOW2025

Cédric Villemain has submitted a new session! Stats roll, baby, stats roll. PostgreSQL 18 will offer extension developers support for defining new statistics, using the native PostgreSQL Cumulative Statistics. We're talking about stats similar to what's in `pg_stat*` views and functions, and how you will be able to define your own views and functions in the future. Using the PACS (PostgreSQL Advanced Cumulative Statistics) extension, we will explore what is offered by PostgreSQL as well as how to define your own new kind of statistics. We will also see how to benefit from the C and SQL API provided by PACS to setup your own gauge, counters, buckets and histogram. New submission: Resource Control Admission - I have a date with my PSI

by HOW2025

Cédric Villemain has submitted a new session! Resource Control Admission - I have a date with my PSI Pressure Stall Information (PSI) has been present in Linux for numerous years, but even so, it's not well known in the world of PostgreSQL. In this talk, we'll introduce PSI along with what it brings, how it works, and where it is used today. Then, we will use the `pg_psi` extension to start "playing" with PSI and react to system events. To do this, we will define system triggers so we're notified when the server is slowing down. This gives us the chance to adjust the workload before it's too late, or give more resources to background tasks like auto-vacuum when it's possible.
