New submission: Tomorrow's Database, Today / 明日数据库，今日呈现
by HOW2025 June 10, 2025

June 10, 2025

Yurii Rashkovskii has submitted a new session! Tomorrow's Database, Today / 明日数据库，今日呈现 Conservatism is highly valued in the database world. Whenever data is involved, the stakes are high – data inconsistency, unavailability, corruption, and loss are all devastating for business. However, conservatism leads to stagnation. Unlike hardware, software visibly lags. So, how do we augment pragmatic conservatism with the need to catch up and make business solutions that propel us into the future? Open session [https://sessionize.com/app/organizer/session/19661/953634] These notifications can be turned off on Edit event [https://sessionize.com/app/organizer/event/edit/19661#_tab-advanced] page. Re: Request for Verification Letter of Invitation
by Grant Zhou June 10, 2025

June 10, 2025

Dear Yasir and Cedric, I regret to inform you that we were unable to obtain the verification letter despite our best efforts. After multiple attempts and exploring various approaches with the relevant office, our requests for the verification letter have been declined. Unfortunately, visa requirements for Pakistani nationals have remained strictly regulated since 2020, which has impacted our ability to secure the necessary documentation. We sincerely apologize for that and appreciate your understanding of these circumstances beyond our control. Re: About the Postgres Conferecne in China
by GRANT ZHOU June 10, 2025

June 10, 2025

------------------------------ Dear Alvaro, Thank you so much for agreeing to come to China for the conference - this is wonderful news and I truly appreciate your commitment. I have already reserved a speaking slot specifically for you, so please take your time to prepare and submit your talk proposal when convenient. You may also consider submitting multiple proposals so our team can have options to select from. I will be in China from June 22 to July 10, and I'd love to coordinate our schedules. Here's a preliminary itinerary we're considering: - June 27-28: Main conference in Jinan - June 29: City tour of Jinan - June 30: Meeting at Highgo office - Additional time: Business meetings with the Highgo team to discuss potential future collaborations *Please note *that you *don't need to book the high-speed train* from Beijing to Jinan - we will handle that for you. We will also take care of hotel arrangements in Jinan, so *no need to book accommodations* on your end. Just let us know if the schedule works for you. Please share your travel schedule and availability so we can finalize the detailed arrangements. We can discuss the specific agenda and logistics in the coming weeks. Looking forward to seeing you in Jinan! New submission: Which Postgres are you running?
by HOW2025 June 9, 2025

June 9, 2025

Alvaro Hernandez has submitted a new session! Which Postgres are you running? You run Postgres in production. And one of the reasons is that it’s Open Source. So you can inspect the source code of what you are running, right? Right???? Maybe it’s not that obvious. Where did you get that binary from? Who compiled it? With what compiler, dependent libraries, of which versions? Where did that source code come from? Along all the supply chain, has any component been replaced by others or infected by malware? Xz anyone? If you are ready to swallow the red pill, join this session to understand that you probably don’t know which Postgres are running, and worse you are likely not able to reproduce the binary you are running. Enter the world of Postgres and reproducible builds. And SBOMs. And supply chain attacks. And hermetic builds. And all the terminology that is necessary to understand and build a truly secure and reproducible Postgres build. Last but not least, a new fully open source Postgres distribution will be presented, built after all these principles.
